New Albany Video Design Guidelines Training
Community design guidelines don’t have to be difficult to access.
Municipalities work hard to shape their communities by writing and implementing thoughtful design standards. Unfortunately, printed guideline documents tend to end up on shelves collecting dust. Enter Designing Local’s Video Training Service. We now offer a fresh and easy way to communicate your local design expectations.
Saving Time and Increasing Understanding
Overwhelmingly, people receive their information from videos and the Internet.
Our videos bring printed documents and pdf files to life!
Content is carefully selected and edited to assist design professionals, developers, and citizens in understanding architectural and design requirements.
The videos are use-on-demand to lessen reliance on in-person training sessions.
Members of architectural review boards and commissions will be able to train themselves anytime, anywhere with easily sharable lessons.
The greater citizenry can also learn about their community’s character and special story and how they can contribute.
New Albany, Ohio’s Design Training Portal
The Designing Local team delivered inaugural Design Guideline Video Training Series web portal to The City of New Albany, Ohio. New Albany has an instantly recognizable design standard for new construction and high expectations. New Albany officials selcted Nancy Recchie and Jeff Darbee of Benjamin D. Rickey & Company (the professionals who crafted the City’s guidelines in 2006) to host the videos.

Our Future Clients
Designing Local’s future video clients will include other municipal video services for their design guidelines, historic guidelines for neighborhoods and districts, and development standards for private sector clients. We will also be working to tell the stories of:
- completed plans (special district, comprehensive plans, neighborhood plans, and others);
- major development proposals; and
- visioning opportunities for the public and private sector.
Catering to Your Community’s Brand Standards
Your videos will be produced to match the personality and brand that your community needs to convey. Choose straightforward, upbeat, or any other feeling indicated by your brand standards. You will also have the option of video hosts – choose local celebrities or professionals (as New Albany did) or opt for Designing Local’s pool of available on-camera personalities.
Our Creative Mission
Video training services adds to our core creative mission to assist our public and private sector clients in telling your place’s story so that others may understand and contribute to your story in a variety of ways. This includes communications needs for chambers of commerce and other economic development and housing agencies, reasons why people should visit cities, towns, and regions working for tourism boards and commissions, and other opportunities for which videos may contribute.
