Designing Local Helps Newark and Athens win State Historic Tax Credits
Designing Local is pleased to announce two successful State Historic Tax Credit awards for Round 16 of the Ohio Historic Tax Credit Program.
The first, 14-16 West Union Street in Athens was badly damaged in a fire in November of 2014. Previously used for first floor commercial space, and second floor residential units, this project will help return 14-16 West Union back to first floor commercial, second floor residential and will add an additional third floor of residential. These two buildings are the only two out of six that are being saved from demolition.
Read more about the fire and the building owners here.
The second, 14-16 North Park Place in Newark, is a series of commercial buildings built in the late 1800’s and has seen uses such as a great hall, a bicycle shop and even tenement housing. Their latest uses have been retail and small residential units on the second and third floors. Their new uses will be commercial office space and apartments that overlook the historic square.
Congratulations to Athens and Newark on winning these credits.
