Athens begins “Essence” Implementation

The day after the adoption of The Essence of Athens Plan, the City of Athens, Ohio began implementation.

Here is “The Athens Crosswalk” – so named because the citizens created it. The design is from the steel window grate patterns from “The Ridges” (an historic “lunatic asylum” overlooking Ohio University). There is NO other crosswalk like this on Earth. It wasn’t taken from a landscape architecture catalog. There is a very specific Athens-based / local story here. This is a small very symbolic step in creating a city that is like no other with a story all its own.
