Public Art “Ownership” in SLO
Public art is becoming integral to the quality of life in many communities and so is citizen participation in the public art planning process. Maximizing “community ownership” in any public art plan (and attachment to the art itself) is vital. Designing Local recently completed an intensive citizen participation process in San Luis Obispo, California to increase public art access, awareness, and ownership and to help guide the policy of the finished and adopted plan. Principal and Plan Manager Amanda Golden took lots of photos highlighting the spirit of the process.
Thank you, San Luis Obispo! Your public art master plan will be completed by the end of 2015.
